The Woodlands series follows Abramson’s relationship, over the years, with chaos, light, loss and place. Shooting this series is a cyclical process, one in which she uses the natural world as her raw materials. And in the same way forests change through the process of time, chance and contingency so does her photographic response to the woods.

For much of her career, Sue Abramson has experimented with both traditional and alternative photographic methods in connection with the environmental landscape. Her work has been nationally and internationally shown. Featured exhibitions include Gestures 15 at the Mattress Factory, Digital to Daguerreotype at The Carnegie Museum of Art, No Mirrors at Rayko Photo Center and Connecting Pittsburgh at Gallerie Nahore, Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic. She has recently retired from her Associate Professor position at Pittsburgh Filmmakers where she taught photography for thirty years.
