Join current Silver Eye exhibiting artist Aaron Blum for an evening of discussion and inspiration. Learn more about his project, Born and Raised, included in Continuum: Doug DuBois & Aaron Blum (on view through July 20), a series of portraits of his family and friends as well as landscapes and interior scenes taken to represent an idealized granular depiction of his home in Appalachia. Aaron will also discuss and provide samples of his in-progress series Almost Heaven, a portrait of the Hare Krishna community that resides in West Virginia.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Fee: Free for Silver Eye members; $6 for non-members

Silver Eye Photo Safaris


Silver Eye's Photo Safaris give you hands-on instruction from a professional photographer while visiting Pittsburgh's most photogenic and historic spots, some not normally open to the public. These field trips are for photographers at any skill level. Enjoy a great day outdoors, advance your knowledge of basic concepts and techniques, and meet others who share your interest in photography.

Carrie Furnace is one of Pittsburgh's greatest historical sites of the industrial age. Through general and one-on-one instruction, further your knowledge of composition, quality of light, exposure, high dynamic range, and panoramas, all while enjoying the beauty and history that surrounds you.

Organic Farming & Sustainability Photo Safari

Explore One Woman Farm's acres of gardens and pastures while receiving one-on-one instruction from professional photographer and instructor Karen Antonelli. Students will gain access to OWF as well as learn about sustainability and the importance of organic farms in the Pittsburgh region. At the end of the safari, relax and enjoy an included lunch en plein air at the farm!

Founder and manager Margaret Schlass created One Woman Farm in 2008 after gaining agricultural experience at various organic farms across the United States and abroad. The 2013 growing season will be One Woman Farm's fifth year serving its CSA, farmer's market, and restaurant customers.

After editing your best shots from the day, we welcome you to submit your photos to OWF to be featured (with proper acknowledgements) on their website. Check it out here: http://www.onewomanfarm.com.

The Bigger Picture workshops connect you to the knowledge, training, and resources needed to take your professional career and creative vision to the next level. Get Noticed: Where to Get Your Work Seen in Pittsburgh

Have you ever wanted to display your work, but just don't know where or how? Spend an evening listening, conversing, and interacting with a panel of local professionals as they discuss their own experiences in navigating Pittsburgh's exhibition spaces and hear their recommendations for beginner and intermediate artists looking to break out on the scene and get public recognition. From curators to small gallery owners, this panel is sure to provide a unique and interesting outlook on the Pittsburgh arts scene.

Digital Photography Boot Camps

We've created new two- hour workshops designed just for the beginner and taught by some of Pittsburgh's finest photo educators. Enroll for all or just take the ones you need to master your digital SLR (d-SLR) camera and settings, photo editing applications and techniques.

Cancellation and refund policy: Payment is due at the time of registration. Full payment confirms your place in class. In the case of registration by e-mail or voice mail message, we can hold your place for up to three business days. If Silver Eye must cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, registered participants will be notified two (2) days before the start date, and tuition will be reimbursed within thirty (30) days of notification. In the case of participant's cancellation in a one session class or workshop, payment may be refunded up to seven (7) days before class with a $10 cancellation fee. In the case of participant’s cancellation in a multi-session class, payment may be refunded up to two weeks before class with a $25 cancellation fee. There is no refund for cancellations received less than seven (7) days before a one session class or workshop start date and two weeks before multi session classes.
