Lecture: New Frontiers in Photography

What’s new on the horizon for photographers today? Join us to hear about the new technologies such as Gigapan (invented right here at Carnegie Mellon), HD cameras, and 360 degree panoramic cameras. Dror Yaron, Outreach Coordinator for the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute, Christopher Rolinson, associate professor of photojournalism at Point Park University and Steve Mellon of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will be our guides as we explore the uses of these new cameras and techniques.

The Essentials of Composition

Saturday, February 20, 10:00 a.m. – noon.

Learn the basic skills in photographic composition in order to produce the best shot possible. Photography instructor Sally Bozzuto will help you to find the elements needed to make your picture stand out from the crowd.

The Art of Framing

Wednesday, February, 24, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Choosing the right color, texture, and size of mat or frame can help any work of art look better. The wrong choices can be a disaster. Come to this workshop led by Elizabeth Suhr of Elizabeth Suhr Framing to learn the latest archival methods and how to mat and frame wisely.

Portfolio Consultations by Ellen Fleurov

Saturday, February 27, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Ellen Fleurov, Executive Director of Silver Eye Center for Photography, will meet with individual photographers to review portfolios and recent projects. Six 20 minute sessions are available.

Intermediate Digital Camera   Focus: Buying and Using your Digital SLR

Thursday, March 11, 6:30– 8:30 p.m.

Kick it up a notch! Moving beyond the white balance, photographer and teacher Sally Bozzuto will show you how to get the most out of your SLR camera. Topics covered will include depth of field, aperture priority, image quality, raw and compressed files, custom white balance, and histograms.

Light Rail Photo Safari

Saturday, March 13, 10:00 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Did you know that you are not allowed to photograph on Pittsburgh’s Light Rail System?

Well…we have special permission on one Saturday morning to travel zone 1 with our cameras and take all the pictures we want! This will include a ride on the incline, some nice views in Beechview, and even the Smithfield St. Bridge. We will provide bus tickets. Join us for a chance to welcome the early spring views in Pittsburgh.

We will meet at the Station Square T station.

Members: $30.00; Non-members $37.00. Group size limited. Reservations required.
