The Bigger Picture
Professional Development and Creative Workshops for Photographers and Visual Artists

The Bigger Picture is a new initiative designed to connect you to the knowledge, training and resources needed to take your professional career and creative vision to the next level.

The Bigger Picture’s workshops are organized around three tracks — acquiring new business and communication skills; optimizing digital technologies, web and social media to build and retain audiences, patrons and clients; and finding new, innovative ways to stretch your creative vision and practice.

Classes are offered at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. Programs take place at Silver Eye’s South Side facility and at other venues throughout the city, including Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Robert Morris University and the WYEP-FM Community Education Center.

While developed specifically for fine art and other photographers, these workshops are applicable to any visual artist who wishes to better define their strategic vision or attain their creative and entrepreneurial goals.

The Bigger Picture is made possible in part through a Seed Award from The Sprout Fund and the support of The Fine Foundation.

Become a member of Silver Eye and enjoy course discounts.

Our instructors represent some of the region and country’s most accomplished and innovative practitioners, who will offer expert guidance and inside perspectives on the field. Richard Kelly, Silver Eye’s Education Coordinator is also available for consultation on which courses to select and to answer any of your other questions. And, in your classes and at our quarterly social gatherings, you’ll meet and network with other participating artists who share your passions and interests.

Full and partial tuition assistance available to eligible students.

We will offer over twenty full and partial scholarships for workshops beginning in February 2011, through the generous support of a Seed Award from The Sprout Fund. You may apply for tuition support for up to two classes through June 2011. Scholarships do not cover materials fees, which remain the responsibility of the student, and are available until funding has been expended.
